Moon days

New moon and full moon are traditionally rest days in Astanga yoga. Here you can find the upcoming moon phase and an overview 12 months ahead, calculated automatically for Copenhagen.

Question: "Why should we not practice on full and new moon days"?

Answer: "That day is very difficult day. Two stars one place (conjunction) is going. New moon also, full moon also. That day very dangerous day. You (take) practice (on that day), anyone can have a small pain starting. That pain is not going very quickly. Long time heis taking. Some broken possible. That is why that day don't do".

K Pattabhi Jois, Public Talks on Ashtanga Yoga – France 1991

New Moon and Full Moon are traditionally rest days in Astanga Yoga, and therefore there are no Mysore classes or Led Class on these days.

Moon Day means: Take a break. Rest. Find stillness and space for reflection. Meditate. Slow down, be present, and perhaps sleep a little longer. Make space for recovery, relaxation, and healing.

Times are calculated automatically using an astronomical algorithm (Meeus), accurate to within a few minutes. They are shown in your device's timezone — and in Copenhagen, if you are elsewhere, so you can plan your practice both at home and on the road. Special events such as supermoon, solar eclipse and blood moon (total lunar eclipse) are marked next to the relevant time.
